The Mogen David (Magen David) six-pointed star is a symbol of Judaism nad the Jewish religion and is frequently seen in synagogue decoration, Jewish tombstones, and the flag of Israel. The Jewish star was popularized as a Jewish emblem by Kabbalists for protection against evil spirits and became widespread in the 17th century. This iron hexagram star decorates a fence in the Jewish community center, a pre-WWII building. Photograph by Nathan Benn taken October 5, 1979.
